My ‘Children’…Cee’s Oddball Photo Challenge

Many people know know me well know I love to take pictures. This is a relatively new finding-I started on a trip to England with some friends and haven’t stopped! Unfortunately the only equipment I have to work with is an iPod and the camera on my phone (or phones I no longer use). Still, I think they turned out pretty damned good. Others, not so much, which is why I might not have published or shown some of the earlier ones. Most of these were taken with my old LG for Verizon, but not all.ย  Anyway, here are the “weird” photos I’d like to submit to Cee’s Oddball Photo Challenge. http://ceenphotography.com/cees-odd-ball-photo-challenge/

Haley and Slater, two of the sweetest cats in the world!

Haley and Slater (from left)
Two of the sweetest cats in the world! They can often be found in various affectionate poses. Slater also likes to run around the house like a madman, chasing after nothing. Maybe he sees something I don’t

Hey, I told Daniel Tiger I’d scan him in if he didn’t move…:)

I miss my Daniel Tiger. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

“Mommy, yoo-hoo! I’m waiting!!!!

Now let’s play Find The Kitty!:

Toby is a Manx…this breed of cat is born without a tail. He’s what’s called a ‘rumpy riser’, because he has a little ‘nub’ he moves up and down.ย  Strangely, though, he is the only one I’ve ever seen chase his ‘tail’….*shakes head*.ย  Freak!

He’s a total chunk, weighing what feels like 12-15 pounds. Believe it or not, he’s not the fattest cat we know. I know one who weighs 26 pounds. Yes, you read that right. 26. What’s interesting is that he feels pretty solid, although I’m sure there’s some fat under there.

Here are some other photos I just feel like posting:

“Extreme close-up! Whooooooaaahhhh!”

Oscar isn’t our cat; he’s the 26-lb cat mentioned above but, yes, that’s a pickle he’s eating…

Anyway, these are some of my “oddball photos”. I hope you enjoyed them!

Love/Hate Challenge

I got this idea from “Just Plain ‘Ol Vic”. Basically, we name ten things we love and ten we hate. I’m not that interesting so you might not care one way or another, but here are my lists.

Red Curly Hearts clip art

-God, although I don’t show it well
-My husband
-My cats…animals in general, really. I have five of them. I would take home every homeless little whatever if I could.
-My family and friends
-The joy my friends’ little girls show toward everything. I still think it’s sweet how one of them saw me across her yard and ran to hug me at full speed. That was two years ago, but I still love it.
-The sheer beauty of nature, especially flowers and animals.
-Mediterranean food. It’s the main way I get my husband to eat salad.
-Movies, music and TV. I just wish I had a talent or way to get into any of these, particularly music. I can carry a tune in a bucket, but that’s about it.
-Taking pictures. At this time I only use my phone and iPod, which have surprisingly good cameras. Even so, I would love to learn how to take professional-grade pictures with professional-grade equipment. I think there’s a digital camera around here somewhere, but it’s not mine.

ย I like most people until they give me a reason not to. I think that, aside from earning our salvationย  (because that’s just not going to happen), non-perfect humans have the capacity for good and the capacity for evil.ย  There might be a few on the far ends of the spectrum…I guess the Mother Teresas and Hitlers of the world…but, for most of us, it’s a matter of degrees.ย  Jesus is the only perfect person who ever lived, but that tends to happen when you’re the son of God.

Proud Nerd Image clip art

-Snobby people
-People who are racist/sexist/homophobic/etc
-Beer…although there are some hard ciders or flavored beers (i.e. Redd’s Apple Ale) I like
-The smell of fish and liver pudding. Don’t ask.
-The way I get obsessed with things like TV because I don’t have a job or much going on outside the home. I also hate that I’ve not been able to work, so money isn’t our friend either.
-People who go out of their way to make everyone else miserable. They can’t stand to see anyone happy because they want everyone else to be as ill-tempered as they are.
-People who hurt animals
-The way I can be selfish and frustrated sometimes
-The fact that I can get so stuck up my own butt that I don’t catch the things going on with other people around me. I especially hate it if I get a guilt trip about it.
-People who are mean just for the sake of being mean

Wow, I always thought of myself as a positive person, and yet I found it a lot easier to think of things I hated than things I loved. Maybe it’s because I don’t spend as much time thinking about things I love enough to be able to put them into words? No, that’s sad. Maybe it’s because I like most things (or am at least ambivalent toward them), so it’s easier to narrow the things I hate down? I don’t know. I just think that life is too short to go around throwing fits and arguing with people over trifles. Most things like what soda you get, who cleans the catbox or what food you bring to a party aren’t things worth bickering about, especially in front of other people. Some people call this being a doormat, but I call it picking my battles. Most of them aren’t worth fighting.

Now, it’s my turn to “tag” ten other bloggers. Hopefully they won’t mind.
-DA Ugly Duckling http://dauglyducklin.org/
-Express with NeJae http://blog.nejae.com/
-Notes From The UK http://notesfromtheuk.com/
-Cee’s Photography http://ceenphotography.com

I’m not as active in the blogging world as some I know. Again, I hope they don’t mind.

ย Oh, and, I did think of one other thing I love.
ย -A full moon reflecting on a perfectly still tide
I grew up on the beach. I think I’ll always love stuff like that.

The Painted Kitty

This is my cat Missy. I call her “The Painted Kitty” (or just “Painted”) because of the way each individual hair of hers has specks of the colors that make up her patterns. You’ll probably find this on most tabbies, although it’s usually easier to see in cats with multiple colors than with different shades of the same color. She looks as though God took a paintbrush and started marking up a canvas in whatever pattern He wanted to use. My friend’s tortie (tortoiseshell calico) Daimos was the same way-black with yellow and orange blotches that showed up bit by bit on each of her hairs. My vet said that no two tabbies or torties have exactly the same patterns, so it’s as though He really did “paint her special”. That’s what I tell her, anyway.

She might not understand the words, but I think animals pick up on a lot more than we think. My old roommate’s cat Thomas would immediately follow her into her room when she came in crying, which happened a lot. Her other cat would camp out on the edge of my bed when I was home with a sinus infection; she had sinus issues too, so it was like she “felt my pain.” When I came home from the hospital after having been there for a month, I’d wake up to find Missy at the end of my bed each morning. I think she wanted to make sure I didn’t go away again. They’re aware of these things, sometimes more so than humans.

Anyway, I hope you liked looking at her as much as I do. It’s like I’ve said about a sunset-if God is willing to put so much care and effort into something that can’t talk or have a relationship with Him, imagine how much care He puts into us. Something to think about.

Coney McConerton :)

In this post ,https://theprozacqueen.wordpress.com/2009/11/03/117/ย  I said I couldn’t get Haley to pose by herself because she was too camera-shy. Well, it took a while, but I’ve gotten her to sit for a few…or, made her, or something…anyway-

Introducing Coney McConerton!

Haley with cone

If she looks pissed, that’s because she is. She has to wear that cone because her food allergies (soy, dairy, egg, rice…in other words, every cat food ever made) make her itch so bad she can’t stop chewing at herself if left alone. She’s doing a lot better than before-she takes pills now rather than allergy shots-, but she’ll probably always have problems in the spring and fall. It doesn’t matter that she is indoor-only; the pollen and some grasses around here bother her skin, and all you have to do is open a window. After years of having to buy her special food, we’ve managed to find an over-the-counter food (9 Lives Plus Care) that doesn’t have her allergens that the other cats can have too. It helps with Slater’s (the grey-and-white boy’s) urinary issues too.

She’s a sweet girl, though, and very popular at the vet’s office. If she were human, she’d be the prom queen.

She’s also *smart*-she figured out how to take off her cone within about five minutes of being put in “her room” to be fed and “pilled”, as well as how to hide a pill in her mouth and spit it out when I’m not looking. I think she once even *hid* her cone too-or at least that’s what I thought when I found it under the dining-room table, a place she wouldn’t have been able to get to if she’d been wearing it.

Anyway, I just thought I’d share. Enjoy!

Something cute

I know I haven’t been around much, I’ve not been doing as well, and somewhat busy. I hate the sort of ‘flat’ boredom of ‘blah’ feeling. In case anyone else has this too, here’s a picture I found that might help:

This cat is practically a clone of my Daniel Tiger…and he’s pretty mellow, so maybe this is his ‘secret’…

I’ve got this excruciatingly annoying ear worm in my head for some reason:

And now you do too. Mwwaaahaaahaaa! ๐Ÿ™‚

At least the cat’s cute, and the guy’s not bad either! ๐Ÿ™‚

25 Random Things About Me

You can blame my friend Ross for this one…I got the idea from one of his blog posts!

Here goes:

25 Random things about me.

1. I’m used to people getting my name wrong. Sharon, Shawna, Shane, Sheena…all things I have been called, but none are my name. I’ve even had people see the name before meeting me (profs, etc) and think I was a man! ๐Ÿ™‚ No, I’m not going to tell you my name…
2. I’ve never seen the movie Deliverance. I constantly hear people referencing it in conversation (mostly when talking about freaky Southern redneck people or weird Christians), but I still haven’t seen the movie.
3. I once wrote a rap song for a guy. Seriously. I can still recite part of it from memory. And no, I can’t rap my way out of a plastic bag; that was intentional and part of the fun. ๐Ÿ™‚
4. The guy I wrote the aforementioned rap song for is now my stepbrother. I guess it’s a good thing I never performed it and nothing really happened between us, huh? ๐Ÿ™‚
5. I’m 32. I still get carded, though. ๐Ÿ™‚
6. I have kind of a geek-crush on Seth MacFarlane. Stop laughing.
7. I have bipolar disorder. Looking back I think I had traces of it from the time I was eleven, but I did not get treatment for anything until I was 18, and that was for unipolar depression. I was diagnosed the first time with bipolar in 2000, but only began treatment after a second diagnosis in 2004. I will outline the (incredibly stupid) reason for this a little later.
8. I met my husband at a wedding, and the couple who got married also met at a wedding.
9. I once had purple hair. Seriously. Okay, it was burgundy. That’s still purple! ๐Ÿ™‚
10. I have no kids, but five cats who think they are kids. Does that count?
11. I can remember stupid, random crap like a conversation I had with my brother when I was 14 or a rap song I wrote for a guy when I was 16, but I can’t remember someone’s name I met ten minutes earlier. I guess I’m getting old. ๐Ÿ™‚
12. I can’t stand Star Wars. Well, maybe that’s too strong a statement…there’s just something about having something pushed on you that makes you want to push it back!
13. My oldest nephew’s first word was ‘butthead’. Seriously.
14. One of my cats has allergies. I didn’t even know cats could have that. But then, sometimes she acts like she is from another planet, and so this kind of weird stuff shouldn’t surprise me.
15. I hate beer.
16. Slater, get off the counter. Don’t give me any of that ‘meow’ stuff. Just do it!
17. My butt itches.
18. I’ve never been drunk. Yes, really. My sisters tried to get me drunk once when we were in Key West on a cruise, but it didn’t work. I drank them both under the table and then had to help *them* back to the boat! My dad still likes telling that story.
19. I didn’t originally get treatment for bipolar because I was dating a guy whose family believed that all you had to do to be healed from whatever illness you have by having enough faith and ‘believing right’ for it. I wouldn’t normally give this the time of day, but at that point I was ready to try anything. Short version, I tried it their way for a while and thought it worked, but it didn’t, and I got grief for going back on meds. How lovely (heavy sarcasm). Because of that, ‘name it, claim it’ and anything related gives a bad taste in my mouth. Anytime I hear that stuff, I want to throw something wet and squishy at whoever or whatever is saying it. I’m just lucky I haven’t gotten arrested yet. ๐Ÿ™‚
20. I will get a song in my head and it will stay in my head until I hear something else to replace it. Right now I have the song from one of the ‘Free Credit Report.com’ commercials floating around. AAAARRGGH! Quick, somebody sing something else!
21. I feel like I used to be much sharper and more intelligent before all the bipolar stuff set on. I say ‘before the bipolar’ because I’ve looked back and seen that I wasn’t that way until then. I have a hard time paying attention and thus learning things, and so it makes me feel and look like a total idiot. I have gotten fired from more than one job because of this.
22. I once got bitten by a dog and hit by a car in the same month. Really. I still have the scars. The nurse who cleaned me up before going to the ER after being hit was the same one who had given me one of my rabies shots a few hours before! I wasn’t allowed to leave my dorm room for the next two days without ‘supervision’ as a result. ๐Ÿ™‚
23. I used to be so shy I could barely talk to people. It’s funny how no one I meet now ever believes me when I say this.
24. I have an ex I wish I could forget. But then, don’t we all?
25. I hated Kill Bill, Vol. 1. I never saw Vol. 2.

Okay, that’s about enough of that. I’d better go get something to eat before I pass out. Later on!

Oh, and, brain bleach is available in the front lobby for anyone who needs it. ๐Ÿ™‚
